UEFA Hits Juventus with Ban from Europa Conference League over Financial Irregularities”
The prestigious European football club Juventus has been dealt a severe blow by UEFA, who announced their expulsion from the Europa Conference League for the current season due to financial irregularities. This decision comes in the wake of a false accounting case that led to Juventus being deducted 10 points in Serie A, consequently pushing them out of the Champions League qualification positions.
As a result of this expulsion, Juventus will be unable to participate in the upcoming UEFA Europa Conference League, a competition they had qualified for before the point deduction. In addition to the ban, UEFA has imposed a substantial fine of €10 million on the club for violating the financial fair play (FFP) rules. There is a potential for an additional €10 million deduction if Juventus fails to comply with UEFA’s financial monitoring regulations in future seasons.
The spot in the Europa Conference League, previously held by Juventus, will now be awarded to Fiorentina, who finished eighth in Serie A during the previous term.
Although Juventus expressed regret over the ruling, they have announced that they will not appeal the decision. The club issued a statement acknowledging the outcome.
“We regret the decision of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body. We do not share the interpretation that has been given of our defence and we remain firmly convinced of the legitimacy of our actions and the validity of our arguments.
“However, we have decided not to appeal this judgment. Despite this painful decision, we can now face the new season by focusing on the field and not on the courts.”
