The Nigerian federal government has addressed the recent travel advisory issued by the United States of America to its citizens in Nigeria. The advisory, which warned of “elevated threats” to major hotels in Nigerian cities, has raised concerns about its potential impact on the Nigerian economy.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed his apprehension towards the advisory, stating that it undermines the government’s ongoing efforts to attract investors to Nigeria. He further emphasized that such advisories can create unnecessary panic and have adverse economic consequences.
Idris also reassured that the safety and well-being of all visitors to Nigeria, including Americans, have always been a priority for the federal government. Rigorous security measures have been implemented at both federal and state levels, including intensified intelligence gathering, deployment of additional security platforms, personnel training and re-training, and cooperation with international law enforcement agencies. These measures aim to ensure a secure environment for tourists and international guests.
The Nigerian government is committed to maintaining investor confidence and fostering a safe and welcoming environment for visitors. Despite the travel advisory, the government’s comprehensive security measures are in place to address any potential threats and ensure the continued growth and stability of Nigeria’s economy.
