In a recent ruling, the Osun State High Court handed down a death sentence by hanging to Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, the prominent owner of Hilton Hotel in Ile-Ife, for the murder of Timothy Adegoke.
Adegoke, a former postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), was tragically killed inside his hotel room at Hilton Hotels in November 2021.
Following the incident, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin and six of his employees were arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the murder.
Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, the chief judge of Osun State, presided over the trial and found Adedoyin and two of his employees, Adeniyi Aderogba and Kazeem Oyetunde, guilty on six of the 18 charges levied against them.
In her ruling, Judge Ojo emphasized that the circumstantial evidence in the case indicated that Adegoke was killed while staying at the hotel run by Dr. Adedoyin.
The court considered this evidence and reached the verdict of guilt for the accused parties.
However, Justice Ojo discharged and acquitted three of the hotel staff members, namely Magdalene Chiefuna, Lawrence Oluwole, and Adedeji Adesola, due to a lack of evidence linking them to the crime.
In a video circulating online, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin appeared shocked and speechless upon hearing the court’s judgment.
The ruling has attracted significant attention and sparked discussions within the community and beyond.
