In a meticulously executed operation targeting a notorious group of terrorists in Sokoto state, troops of 8 Division Garrison launched a discreet offensive into Tukandu Village. The operation, conducted on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, aimed to neutralize the terrorists responsible for numerous heinous activities in the area.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, revealed in a statement that the troops successfully eliminated several terrorists, while others fled with injuries sustained from gunshots. Further mop-up operations resulted in the recovery of three AK-47 Rifles, one PKT Gun, 125 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, 2 Rocket propelled Gun Bombs, and 9 motorcycles.
Commending the troops for their exemplary performance, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, encouraged them to remain resolute and intensify their efforts against the terrorists in order to completely disrupt their freedom of action.
Meanwhile, WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has issued a warning to fellow boxer Oleksandr Usyk regarding their scheduled fight this year. Last month, the two fighters announced an agreement to face each other in the first undisputed heavyweight bout since Lennox Lewis.
According to ESPN, the fight was expected to take place on December 23 or in January 2024, depending on the outcome of Fury’s upcoming match against Francis Ngannou. In an interview with Sky Sports, Fury confirmed that the necessary paperwork had been signed for the December fight, emphasizing that any delay would result in legal consequences for Usyk due to his desire for an extended training camp.
Fury stated, “I’m expecting it to take place in December, that’s what I’ve been told, so I’ve got no reason to disbelieve it, for sure. Usyk has to fight me in December, he doesn’t have a choice. He’s signed a contract, so if he doesn’t, he’s breached the contract and he will face legal action. He doesn’t really have a choice.”
As the military continues to escalate its operations against terrorism, Tyson Fury remains determined to hold Oleksandr Usyk accountable for their contracted fight. The boxing world eagerly awaits the resolution of this high-stakes matchup between the WBC heavyweight champion and the highly skilled Ukrainian boxer.
