A 54-year-old woman, Teresa Hanson, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her husband of 34 years. This shocking case unfolded when Hanson stabbed her husband, Paul Hanson, through the heart, and then proceeded to continue with her dinner preparations.
After a brief deliberation of less than three hours, a jury at Hull Crown Court found Teresa Hanson guilty of murder. She is now expected to spend a minimum of nine years behind bars for this heinous crime. The incident occurred at their family home during an argument, just three days after Christmas.
During the trial, Teresa Hanson admitted that she wanted her husband to leave after he began shouting at her and using derogatory language. Reportedly, she was in the process of preparing a Mediterranean Tart for their dinner when the altercation took place.
According to the prosecution, at approximately 7:00pm on December 28, Teresa Hanson plunged a 2cm wide blade into Paul’s heart, severing his largest artery and causing blood to “spurt out” of his body before he collapsed.
Following the attack, Teresa Hanson made a call to emergency services, admitting to stabbing her husband out of anger during a heated argument. She also reported that he had insulted and verbally abused her in the moments leading up to the incident.
Despite the severity of Paul’s injuries, Teresa Hanson claimed that she had no knowledge of the gravity of the situation. She stated that she did not hear any signs of distress from her husband, nor did she notice the trail of blood he left behind before collapsing in the dining room. Incredibly, she even returned to her dinner preparations, using the same knife.
During the subsequent police interview, Teresa Hanson chose not to answer questions and instead provided a pre-prepared statement. She maintained that her husband had accidentally walked into the knife as she turned around while holding it. However, a pathologist testified that this explanation was highly unlikely.

When questioned about the nature of the stabbing and the love she supposedly had for her husband, Teresa Hanson repeatedly responded with “No comment.” She claimed to have sought guidance from her legal representative on whether she should answer, but was advised against it.
This tragic incident, which occurred in West Cowick near Goole, East Yorkshire, has resulted in a life sentence for Teresa Hanson. Her claim that the stabbing was an accident and that she had no intention to kill or seriously harm her husband was ultimately rejected by the court.
