A woman, Christina Pasqualetto, aged 62, is accused of shooting her husband, Jon, who is 80 years old, on September 20. The incident occurred after she drove for two hours to their second residence in Prescott in an attempt to salvage their marriage, but her spouse had already changed the locks.
In her police booking photo after her arrest for the attempted murder of her husband, Christina Pasqualetto can be seen smiling despite having two black eyes, while Jon reportedly had to defend himself during the altercation.
Pasqualetto drove from their Gilbert home to the Prescott residence on September 20. She confronted her estranged spouse in his bedroom, expressing her desire to avoid a divorce. When Jon reiterated his intention to proceed with the divorce, an argument ensued. During this altercation, Pasqualetto retrieved a handgun and shot him while he remained in bed. Jon managed to subdue her, causing her to drop the firearm, and he tried to escape the house. A struggle followed, resulting in his wife sustaining significant bruising.
Jon was eventually able to flee to a neighbor’s house to call 911. He had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his wrist and was later transported to a Phoenix-area hospital.
The investigation uncovered that the couple was in the midst of a divorce and had been separated for several months. In addition to the shooting incident, Jon reported that his estranged wife had stolen checks and forged a $10,000 check which she subsequently cashed. During an interview with investigators, Christina admitted to the forgery and theft.
Christina was taken into custody and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, forgery, and theft. As of Tuesday, September 26, she remained in custody.
